Welcome to the Google Earth Community posting wizard

With the rapid increase in new members, and the corresponding increase in the number of placemarks being shared, we need to slow you down a little to check a few things.

Do you know about the Google Earth Community layer?

Your fellow users have already shared many thousands of placemarks with the community. Please take a little time to switch on the Google Earth Community layer (you'll find it near the top of the Layers panel in your Google Earth program) and look at the placemarks that appear near where yours is.

If someone has already posted a placemark very similar to yours, consider contacting the poster (via the "private message" feature on the Community site, or by replying to the thread they made for the post) and helping them edit their post to make it more useful.

Every couple of months, we update the Google Earth Community layer to reflect the community's posts. Don't worry if you posted something a few weeks ago and can't see it yet. It will appear the next time we update.

However, please be aware that any images contained (as local images) in your placemark will not be visible through the BBS layer. If you would like them to be visible, they must be hosted on a webserver.

Did you know that you can search the Community to see the placemarks others have made?

This is important! At the top of every Community BBS page there is a link to the search page. Before posting anything, you should use this feature to see if your placemark has already been shared. Many duplicate placemarks have been added in the past several months, and this reduces the usefullness of the Google Earth Community Layer.

Now that you do know these things, please check the appropriate boxes to continue.

Have you switched on the Google Earth Community layer to confirm that you aren't about to post a duplicate placemark?
Yes
Have you searched the Google Earth Community to see if your placemark has been posted before?
