Wrack Maheno

Wrack der T.S.S. MahenoIm Jahr 1935 lief an der Ostküste der Insel der ehemalige Luxusliner, die T.S.S. Maheno, während eines für die Jahreszeit untypischen Zyklons auf Grund. Die Maheno sollte in Japan verschrottet werden und wurde dazu von einem kleineren Schiff gezogen. Um den Strömungswiderstand zu verringern, hatte man der Maheno Schrauben und Ruder ausgebaut, wodurch sie in dem Sturm nicht mehr selbst manövrieren konnte. Versuche, das gestrandete Schiff loszubekommen, scheiterten. In den ersten Jahren wurde die Maheno von den Bewohnern der Insel u.a. für Feste genutzt. Später diente sie der Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) als Zielobjekt. Heute sind nur noch die oberen Decks des Schiffes sichtbar.

I don't know what you've found but the Maheno is at

25°16'1.67"S 153°14'18.15"E

on the east coast.
