It's obviously a motion artifact of some kind, but it's unusual to see one in aerial photograhy.
No explanation. Can any of the imaging experts help?
Cheers

Zoom out to about 75 miles and it's easy to pick out the borders of the newest LA imagery. Within this border, you will see the same effect from any moving object. I would guess it is very similar to the "blue ghost" effect we've seen on other satellite photos. It's much sharper, transparent, and further removed from the "real" image though. It must be a different kind of CCD.

It seems that also aerial photography has its oddities. We have the "Atlanta rush hour" where there are many images of same plane. Another oddity is this ghost that is different from the satellite double exposure. Clorius has found four cases, also in L.A. area. Same kind of ghosts can be found also on cars on motorways.

Looks normal too me, and it's a WHITE PLANE. So I don't understand why you think that.

Look closer, Phoenix - he's talking about the outline "ghost" that appears slightly forward of the white aircraft "real" image.
I still haven't heard a satisfactory explanation for it, or why it mainly appears in just this area.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Whoa that's pretty cool looking. At first I didn't know what you talking about then all of a sudden it updated the photo and i can see the outline. It's pretty trippy. I like how in the outline you can see the tug still attached to the a/c.

What you guys also might want to take a look at is some strange shapes on the runway. It looks like the outline of an invisible plane...this is all at LAX. Ill give you the coords for one: 33 (degrees) 56'24.57 N and 118(degrees) 23'40.45 W....check this out

I have no idea what kind of technology is used for these images, but one guess I have is that a normal (or close to it) CCD is used to capture the color image, and then another shot is taken with some different technology to capture the terrain/altitude data. Perhaps the ghosts seen around LAX come from the 2nd capture. That might explain why the ghosts are only seen with moving objects. The jet taxiing one lane to the east of your original marker actually has TWO ghosts. Go one more lane to the east and look at the bottom corner and you can see the ghost of the luggage train that's north of it. (33°56'25.48" N 118°23'51.98" W)
