Hi All,

My first post here so be gentle with me. I also know nothing about planes !

However, I saw this on the map about 20 yards from my own house !!! It seems to be a WWII bomber in flight over Stukeley Meadows, Huntingdon, England.

My apologies if this has been spotted and posted before.

Jules

[Edit: The original title of this thread was 'WWII bomber in flight'. I've changed it on request to make it more specific]

Well bugger me. It's the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Avro Lancaster, the City of Lincoln. Here she is:

Here's their website - well worth a visit.

It's SOP for the BBMF when they're out on a gig to overfly as many airfields as possible on the way out and way home, to show the aircraft off. In this shot, he's obviously running in to Alconbury.

Here at Cottesmore, we're not too far from their home base at Coningsby, Lincs. During the summer season, we see at least one of the BBMF aircraft most weekends flying over.

What a unique find, Sergio. That's got to be worth 5 stars of anyone's rating!

Cheers

Frank

Hi, Paul. Alconbury closed as an operational untit some time ago. The cars that you see are new cars being stored before being shipped out to the distribution chain.

That's why there are no people and many of the cars are the same!

Cheers

Frank

Hi,

[I've changed the title of the thread to make it more specific - nice tip, thanks.]

Well, I'm glad you all like it so far ! I was amazed when I saw it myself - it took a good few minutes to sink in, and accept it was real. We see sights like this fairly often because of the air-bases close-by, and the air museum at Duxford (hope I've got that name right).

As I say, my knowledge of aeroplanes is very limited, but I thought nothing flew out of Alconbury now - but I'm very ready to be corrected on that

If you draw a line down the centre of the fuselage continuing northwards, then our house is the second that that line would pass through (it's the middle house in the horizontal group of five houses) - with a grey roof and a white van parked out front (someone must have been delivering something). So we were obviously in, and it passed directly overhead !

Frankly, having been knocked dead by seeing it, I'm glad that I've not double-posted.

Regards
Jules

WOW!
That's just awesome ! Just to find the Lanc is an achievement in it's own right. But to do so in the first ever post. I'm amazed!

Simply amazing find there Jules!
Reminds me how awesome it is to hear those 4 Merlins from time to time here in Hamilton when the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster flies overhead!
