This is a sugar cane field fire. They pupposely set these ablaze to make harvesting easier. These fires are massive and very dirty from the ash fallout.

Thanks, and welcome to Google Earth! I lived in Hawaii for 10 years, and have very vivid memories of the cane field fires. I should have recognized this as one! D'oh!
