This will allow you to use software like MapServer to provide maps that can be viewed in google earth. Raster Plaster Some of the key features: * Makes tilesets, doesn't just request image for current bounding box. Data stays while panning and zooming in and out. * Builds most of its configuration automatically from OpenGIS GetCapabilities. * Never touches an image file. * Makes images with sane aspect ratios, uses different number of tiles at different latitudes. * Open Source. There is also a functional demo using TerraServer and NASA JPL public mapping servers. Raster Plaster Demo . The attached .kml file is for this demo.
