Cache data

The "dbcache.dat" has been growing by leaps and bounds. It's now in the region of more than 500 Meg. Will all my placements disappear when i delete the cache? And is this necessary to keep them?

My apologies if this has been answered before

I've deleted both my disk and memory cache (Tools > Options >Cache) and have never lost any of my placemarks.
