*** Updated April 2008 with more sights added and detailed *** Ok. Branching out from my normal Roman interest, here is a catalogue of all the abbeys, priories, friaries and monastic minsters of Britain that have left a trace. I have not included monastic sites which have left no evidence.
The attachment is divided into two sections:
1. Sites I have visited, with details and photographs.
2. Sites I have not yet visited and therefore only the barest details.
These are all the high-res (mostly English & Welsh.) As Scottish and Northern Irish sites become hi-res, I will update.
Please let me know if you know of one I've missed.
Cheers

VictrixT,
This is wonderful information, great job. I am amazed by the sheer number of them!

Thanks. I tend to concentrate on Roman history myself, but my wife is a fan of abbeys, so I've started to get a real interest in the subject these days. It's my long-term goal to visit all the Roman sites and all the abbeys of Britain. Long job though....

Nice set. But:
Great Yarmouth Priory - you've hit the current school site instead of the priory, which they moved out of several years ago. The priory church is still the parish church, slightly to the north and unmissable due to its size; the frater is just south of the chancel, pitched roof on a roughly E-W alignment (but not parallel to the church).

Thanks for that. Some of these are quite hard to track down unless you have some level of local knowledge. I've amended the placemark and reposted.
Cheers.
