Split glacier!

Does anyone know for what reason this glacier is split in this manner? Two lines of exposed earth cut like rivers through the ice...

These are medial moraines. That is in the median of the glacier. The moraines represent a separation between tributaries of the glacier. The tributaries flow down different valleys and join. However, the lateral margin of each glacier is busy eroding the mountain at the edge of the glacier. The eroded material is then carried down glacier along the edge of the glacier until the tributaries meet, at which point this dirt and rock ends up as the border between them. You do not get lateral moraines above the snowline, and lateral moraines usually extend well down into the glacier, they are not usually just a surface feature. This is Torrelbreen, breen meaning glacier

Thank you for the information, mspelto!

After reading through your notes I had a closer look at the edges of the glacier again. I think it's fascinating how the glacier seems to ride up the side of the mountain on the right hand side as it curls around it. Fascinating stuff!
