Floating Sphagnum Mat with Insectivorous Plants

This is a floating mat of live and dead vegetation in Cranberry Bog County Park near Riverhead, New York that supports rare insectivorous plants. The insects supplement the nitrate intake of these plants in this nutrient-poor environment.
