A spiderweb like circular formation near Boothville, LA in the marshlands of the Mississippi river delta.

Thousands of ruler straight channels are cut through the delta, but this one is circular. I can't figure out what or why it is. Anyone know?

Don't have a clue. Good find.

Topos identify a "DGS Road", or something like that, right E of there & some sort of factory (DGS Factory??). There is also a Venice Boat Harbor E of here. This might be a remnant of some attempt to make a boat harbor in the past, but it doesn't look like a good location.

Maybe a Louisiananite can fill us in.

Think you found an old air-base?? Identify it over here.

It almost looks like an impact crater.

This is a man made formation called "The Wheel" in Venice, LA. It is a series of canals dug by Texaco back in the 1940's and '50's to drill for oil and gas.

Appears to be a series of oilfield canals around the top of a salt dome. Louisiana has several prominent salt domes, some rising 140 feet above flat marshland. 160 miles WNW of this feature you'll find Jefferson Island, Avery Island, Weeks Island, and Cote Blanche Island -- 4 salt domes oriented in a NW line spaced 7-8 miles apart. Avery Island ( 29°53'54.38"N, 91°54'21.40"W) most closely resembles the "wheel" near Boothville, with concentric canals, etc.

Check out the info "Jefferson Island Disaster" on the northernmost of the 4 major saltdomes.

When I was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Belle Chasse, La, I did alot of fishing in that area of the Grand Bayou. The feature you are viewing is the remains of an old sulfur mine. You wouldnt believe the great fishing you can have here. At certain times of the year when there is alot of fresh water mixed in with the salt water you have both fresh and salt water varities of fish in this fish bowl. I have had large mouth bass, flounder, and red fish fighting for the same bait.

Actually... all the fishermen down there call it the WagonWheel...
