very interesting? but i don't think it is a volcano. Possibly a sand bank. What looks like steam / smoke stops suddenly at the water break. If it is a volcano, i would not like to be on the boat just to the east of the ' volcano ' lol

I live in Akranes, the town there and I've never heard of an underwater volcano here so I'm pretty sure that is just a part of the rugged stretching out too the sea

Yes, there is no underwater volcano there. However, be careful next time you post so you don't cover up the very item you want people to see.

This feature continues to puzzle me after a few years have passed. The imagery dates from 7-17-2004.

It has the appearance of an underwater fissure that extents almost 200 m NW from the vicinity of the placemark. Perhaps it is some sort of thermal feature - though not specifically volcanic.

It seems like the current is moving from the South and sweeps the plume along with it, and then is diverted by land toward the East, with suspended matter finally being swept South by a longshore current from the North.

A small ship seems stationary in the south-bound plume. Perhaps it is analyzing the chemistry of the water or simply observing, or just happens to be anchored or drifting there. it does not appear to be underway at any significant speed.

I can't find any reference to the feature on the web, so whatever else, it does not seem to be a cause for concern or interest to the local population.
