It is typical for trilliums to have three petals, three leaves, and three sepals. Painted trilliums (Trillium undulatum) usually have white petals with deep pink bases. While walking in the woods at Paul Smiths in the Adirondacks on May 24, 2008 most of the trillium I saw were typical but a few had unusual variations.

Nice photos. Where where they taken ( What country, and when?)
Would they grow in Ireland?

Thank you for your response. The photos were taken on May 24, 2008 at the Adirondack Visitor Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths located in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, USA. There are no trilliums that are native to Ireland, but they can be grown there. Many species of trillium are available for purchase in Ireland and the UK, however, some species are more easily obtainable than the painted trillium. Below are links to sites where trilliums can be purchased or viewed, along with a few sites providing descriptive information.
