40 Voyages of discovery to the Antarctic 100s of Placemarks 50 images 5 MB of interesting information.
Because of my interest in history, exploration and old maps i decided to examine the way in which the only continent that can be claimed to be discovered by western explorers, in the real sense of the meaning, has been opened up in the last 200 years.
I have chosen 40 important voyages of discovery to the Antarctic and from numerous sources drew the pathways the explorers took. It shows 40 voyages starting with James Cook and ending with the international Trans Antarctica expedition of 1989. It also points out the discoveries that were done in an easy clear way. I have used earlier placemark postings of Schakleton by pm77 and Amundsen journey by poster sanandak. Besides them you will find voyages of: Larsen, Borchgrevink, Scott, Mawson, Byrd, Bellingshausen, Weddel, Ross, Palmer, Gerlache, Biscoe, Wilkes, Kemp, Bruce, Nordenskjold, Drygalski e.o. Some are more detailed then others.
If you love the Antarctic You will love this. It starts with all the placemarks turned off. It shows the South pole before it was touched by civilization. Just open the Placemarks and start exploring yourself. There is enough information to keep you occupied for some time.

Hi Stefan
Very nice work indeed.
Just a few minor remarks.
In the 1912 Captain Scotts last voyage (South Pole)/Path folder, placemarks are still named as a generic Google Earth - New Path .
In the 1904 - 1906 Scotts Voyage/Path of Scott folder, the placemark is reported as a "=".
In the 1898 - 1900 Borchgrevink voyage/Path Borchgrevink folder, the first placemark (path) is reported as a generic Untitled Path.
In the 1897 - 1899 Gerlache voyage/Path Gerlache amundsen and frederick cook folder, the placemark (path) is reported as a generic Untitled Path.
In the 1893 - 1894 Larsen Voyage (Whaler)/Path folder, two placemarks are reported as generic Untitled Path, the latter one has no name.
In the 1839 - 1840 Wilkes voyage/placemarks discoveries folder, a placemark is reported as a generic Untitled Placemark.
In the 1839 -1843 James Clark Ross voyage of discovery/Path folder, three placemarks are reported as Untitled Path.
In the 1839 voyage of Balleny/Path of Balleny folder, the path is reported as Untitled Path.
In the 1838-1840 D 'Urville/path of D'Urville folder, the first placemark is reported as Untitled Path.
In the 1830 - 1832 Biscoe voyage antarctic/path Biscoe folder, six placemarks are reported as Untitled Path.
In the 1820 Von Bellinghausen/paths folder, all placemarks are reported as Untitled Path.
I may think you named those Untitled Path purposely. No intention to be picky though. Just minor suggestions for such a good work.
Once again, nicely done.
Bye b

I've tried to open this project in both Google Earht and Google Maps and get errors of it being too large to open etc. I'm excited about interacting with it as I was about to create a very similar project and now I don't have to if I can get it to work - yeah!!!!!! I'll be involved in an actual expedition in the Antarctic retracing Shackleton's route so would love to be able to access this file properly to show the team that we are taking. I'm possibly doing something stupid but I've never had such issues before.
Congrats on putting this together though.
