Sugarloaf Mountain is a 1,000 foot (305 meter) mountain outside of Campbellton, New Brunswick. The mountain is the centerpiece of Sugarloaf Provincial Park. An Indian legend states that Sugarloaf Mountain was created by the god Koluskap when he flung a giant beaver that had built a dam blocking the salmon from their spawning grounds. The beaver landed at the spot, turning into rock and thus the mountain. The mountain in reality is an ancient Devonian volcano. Yes, there were volcanoes in New Brunswick, with Mount Pleasant Caldera being another.
