Google Earth Community: Tumucumaque Park - Largest tropical forest park

Tumucumaque National Park in Brazil covers 9.56 million acres (twice size of Wales). It's located in the Brazilian state of Amapá. The park was created on August 23, 2002. The government of Brazil, Conservation International and the WWF worked together to create the park. The park covers more than half the state. It is also the largest tropical forest park in the world.

The park is remote but has seen some impact because of tin ore mining.
It is part of the Guyana Shield which stretches from Venuzuela to eastern Brazil. It contains endangered species, such as the harpy eagle, jaguar and spider monkey.

"...scientists estimate that the park contains at least eight primate species, 350 bird species and 37 lizard species. It also shelters a number of animals threatened elsewhere. An estimated 42 percent of all lizards, 31 percent of all birds and 12 percent of the primates known to exist in the entire Brazilian Amazon live here."
