This is St Christopher's Church. This church is really interesting in that it has some of the most beautiful stain glass windows. I used to go into the church in the early morning and lay down in one of the pews and close my eyes and let the colors wash over me. The sun coming up would shine through those windows and it was an astounding sight. This sight would be even more astounding for a little kid. From what I've been able to gather up the church was able to get those windows at a good price because Germany was a mess after the war and they were making stain glass extra cheap in order to restart business. They did a really good job because that glass is wonderful. The other cool thing about the church was the fact that it played bell chimes all day and all night too. I could hear the bells chime at midnight. I always waited for that low drone of the mid-night bell chime. To me it was like a reassurance that everything was OK. I believe the chimes we heard were actually a recording and not a real bell. They used a reel to reel tape deck. The deck used metal foil to activate the stop points. So the deck would play the chime until it hit the foil stop point and then stop for an hour. This wasn't just a church; it was also a good sized school. The kids were all required to dress in uniforms. I believe they were blue and white. Yes, those poor kids were taught by nuns, and yes those nuns would smack the hell out of you. It was a beautiful church, but at the same time it was a strange place. The head priest was from Italy and with his extreme accent he was all but impossible to understand. So here I am this little kid FORCED to sit in that very hot church as it had no air and with them really big stained grass windows pouring in the heat. On top of this I had NO idea why that man was pounding on this table yelling strange things at everyone. I got in trouble allot and spent my time out in the car. Thank G-d for the car! At the time I went to that church you couldn't cross Booksin as if you crossed that street you ran into trees. Curtner Ave. did not go through and not only that it was only a two lane road. BTW in this parking lot I saw my first and only 1965 Chrysler gas turbine car! Remember those!
