The C-130 Hercules is generally a highly reliable aircraft. The Royal Air Force (RAF) recorded an accident rate of about one aircraft loss per 250,000 flying hours over the last forty years, making it one of the safest aircraft they operate (alongside Vickers VC10s and Lockheed Tristars with no flying losses).
However, more than 15 percent of the approximately 2,350 production hulls have been lost, including 70 by the United States Air Force (USAF) and the United States Marine Corps (USMC) during the conflict in Southeast Asia. As of November 14, 2007, this is thought to be a complete listing through August 2007, but omits the JC-130A tested to destruction (53-3130, c.n. 3002), and airframes retired or withdrawn from service in the course of useful operational lives. By the nature of the Hercules' worldwide service, the pattern of losses provides an interesting barometer of the global hotspots over the past fifty years.

Here's a post about a C-130 crash at Pallett Mountain in Southern California.
There are a few sources here and here.
I was never able to fine evidence of it in GE but you may have better luck. Pallett Mountain summit is at 34°23'6.00"N, 117°53'3.98"W a different location than either of the other placemarks.

--------------------------------------- Lockheed C-130 crash Eindhoven.
Credit picture : web page
Shortly before the actual landing was to have taken place, the crew of the Hercules initiated what is known as a missed approach procedure. This involved the crew fully opening the throttle with a view to circling in order to approach the runway again. This procedure was not in accordance with the announcements made during the aforementioned radio communication that took place when the aircraft was in the vicinity of Thorn - a 'full-stop landing' had been announced at that juncture. The decision to conduct a missed approach procedure can therefore only be explained from the assumption that the pilots must have believed that it was impossible at that moment to undertake a safe landing. Investigations have shown that a large number of birds, which the aircraft incidentally also struck, were located at the top of the runway. It must be assumed that the crew observed the birds at the last moment, and then made the decision to undertake a missed approach procedure. Air Traffic Control was not notified of this decision, owing presumably to lack of time.
