New members have to somehow discover that the layers exist and must be turned on, usually by making a duplicate post and being informed by someone that they have done bad. If the default were "ON" then many dups wouldn't happen. I'm sure lots of thought went into the decision to make "OFF" the default, but as the community grows, maybe it's time for a rethink.
