All trails on Moscow Mountain are on private land and are closed to motorized use. Please respect the land and wishes of the landowners. The Headwaters trail is about a 5.5 mile loop from the parking area. For information on parking or the trailhead, search for 'Headwaters' and 'Moscow Mountain' Headwaters is most commonly ridden/hiked in the counter-clockwise direction. The entrance to the trail is about 100' past Pond 9 on the right side. It is a medium technical trail, so many beginner riders could be overly challenged by it. The trail is pretty easy to follow. However, a few miles in to it you will pop up at an old road intersection. Look to the east for a small trail heading off the left side of the road and continue on that trail. In another 1/2 mile you will cross another trail (beginning of Southside trail). Head directly across this trail. You'll then enjoy a few downhill switchbacks, followed by six challenging uphill switchbacks. The trail mostly decends for the next several miles until it comes out on Foothill Rd again. Look directly southwest from this exit across the road for the entrance to more of the trail. This section was build as part of an Eagle Scout project and has been nicknamed 'BoyScout trail.' Following this trail will dump you right by Pond 9 again, next to the original entrance of the Headwaters Trail. |
