MODIS Rapid Response System Global Fire Maps

Credits: Fire maps created by Jacques Descloitres, MODIS Rapid Response System at NASA/GSFC. Fire detection algorithm developed by Louis Giglio. Fire locations produced by the MODIS Rapid Response System since mid-2001. Fire locations for 2000 and 2001 produced by the MODIS Adaptative Processing System (MODAPS) at NASA/GSFC and collected by the Geography Department of University of Maryland. Background image: Blue Marble created by Reto Stokli.
Fire locations are also distributed through the Web Fire Mapper at the University of Maryland, and through the USDA Forest Service's Active Fire Maps Program at the Remote Sensing Applications Center.
