I remember seeing reports on the Northern White Rhinos a few years ago. Each was accompanied by armed guards to protect them from being poached.

The Rhinos got so close the one of the chaps even brushed his horn to move him on.
The rhino are so quiet as there are only 3 left in Zambia. Each Rhino is assigned an armed guard 24 hours a day...7 days a week. Its the guards job to keep the rhino in sight at all times. I asked if they can shoot to kill & they said without even so much as a warning shot if they see anyone near the rhino. If the rhino is shot then they said they are in more trouble than the poacher. One got out one night & as the guards were running looking for him...they heard a shot. The rhino had only been out for 3 hours. They managed to save him but the vet had to pull a bullet from his rump. I dont think those paochers will be back.
