On February 28th 1997, A Bank Robbery took place at the Bank of America, 6600 Laurel Canyon Blvd, North Hollywood, California. where two heavily armoured bank robber's stole $303,305. Then Emil Matasareanu and Larry Philips fired over 1000 armour piercing rounds at LAPD police officers as they tried to make their escape from the bank. Eventually both men were killed by Police Officers after a 45 minute long gun battle which many law enforcement officers have dubbed as the biggest urban combat battle in the history of the United States. Approximately 370 police officers attended the shootout and remarkably, although twelve officers, eight civilians, and one civilian dog, were wounded (only two severely), the gunmen, Matasareanu and Philips were the only people to die that day.

For anyone who may be interested, a movie was made about this incident in 2003 called '44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shootout'

Now, I know that this project is not 100% accurate or complete, and I know I may not of had all the facts to hand when I made this. I do not live in LA, I was not there when it happened. All I know comes from the sparse accounts of the incident floating around the web. So because of this I am actively encouraging any of you to highlight any errors I have made, and to add things that I may have missed to this project, and most importantly to tell me when I'm wrong. Therefore any mistakes I have made will be rectified and this project will be re-released correctly.

Here is a list of thing's that I still need to find out:
1. The exact location of the store the police used as a temporary command center.
2. Has anybody got an image of the old B&B Gun Sales store that I can use.
3. And finally, if anyone knows it, the location of the house the bank robbers lived in.

Oh yeah, BTW, before any of you tell me that GE has the bank as being located one block to the south, I believe that location is incorrect and the bank IS where I have placemarked, if you look at the map you will see the location of the bank and the streets surrounding it are clealy marked.
