There is an underground tunnel here which was disovered several years ago by men working on the railway system. They broke through into a tunnel but were not allowed to investigate and the tunnel was sealed. It allegedly runs parallel to the railway lines.

This tunnel runs up roughly from the beach (To the NE of here) to under the bus stop directly across the road where it joins another tunnel that runs from Tynemouth Castle, along Front Street and through the site of Tynemouth Manor House (SE of here) to the Church to the west of this roundabout. From the site of the church it heads NW toward the site of an ancient Monks House (Commerorated by the street named 'Monhouse Avenue' north of Beach Road) and from thence to Preston.
