Very nice! Unfortunately, I think the aircraft are incorrectly identified. It appears Rambo54 may have gotten them right. He calls them Chinese JH-7s. See his posts in the thread: "unknown aircraft at chelyabinsk" in the unmoderated Military forums. I initially thought they might have been an SU-27 or MiG variant (like the one the Chinese went on to use to develop the JH-10). However, in looking over Rambo's posts I have to agree with him on the JH-7s.

Apparently about the time this picture was taken (Aug 07) there was a big joint Russian/Chinese exercise underway in this part of Russia and the aircraft were probably part of it. The exercise got a lot of attention in military/diplomatic circles, but not much was heard in the general press. Also, in the Jan 08 issue of Military Officer magazinee put out by Military Officer's Association of America, there was a big article on China's Charm Offensive. They discuss the exercise and other diplomatic and economic activites the Chinese have embarked on over the last decade to "soften" their worldwide image. Fascinating. Looks like major foreign policy challenges lie ahead. So this was quite the catch you made.

BTW if you look towards the end of the runway just past the taxiway you see the same type aircraft with no chute (1st aircraft of a two ship formation?). About 250 m towards the end of the runway on the left side of the runway there is a bright spot and in the field is a vehicle. I wonder if the first aircraft dropped its chute and that is the recovery vehicle parked nearby.
