The Moon is far too bright and would ruin the instruments. You can do quite a good job with a medium aperture telescope and domestic digital camera. This link shows a sample:

Also Hubble can't point within 15 degrees of the Sun but Mercury and Venus are both capable of wandering outside this range. Most Mercury photos are taken from spacecraft and I've only ever seen 10 amateur photos, 9 of them mine and these 3 were taken this year:
