Googlesky is wonderful... but just 2D. Obviously since it's based directly on surveys like SDSS and so on but Google earth is 3D although its based on satellite photos which are 2D. So why not Googlesky 3D? Zoom in to your favourite region of the universe! The distances to very many stars and galaxies is known or estimated, so making a 3D map of the universe is, at some level, quite possible. For galaxies the large scale redshift surveys could be used.
