Do's and Not Do's

Things you should and should not do on the Community

Things you should DO:

  • Know how to "Search" the BBS for previously posted places and information.

  • Use Google Earth Community BBS Layers to see if there is a history of placemarks for a given location.

  • Add a description to your placemark.

  • When posting or replying, understand that there are differences between people, cultures, religions, languages, idioms, and much much more.

  • Treat Everyone with respect and understanding. (This includes your friendly and hardworking Moderators)

  • Read the other threads in the Collected Google Earth Wisdom Forum.

  • When someone helps you, be it another memeber or one of the Moderators, thank them, either with a reply or a PM. We all enjoy a pat on the back now and then.

Things you should NOT DO:
  • Post Political, Religious, Racial, or Sexual material.

  • Flame or otherwise degrade Members, Moderators, Administrators, or Google Employees.

  • Create the same post in multiple locations.

  • Create the same placemark in multiple posts or replies.

  • "Bump" a post or reply.

  • Post Advertisements.

  • Post SPAM.

  • Hot Link Images. Please save them someplace you control. There are "Free" services out there. ImageShack is just one.

  • Post another "Area 51", "Crop Circle", or "Atomic Bomb Test".

When in doubt, use some good old common sense or as we call it, Netiquette.

...but no more advice than seems truly necessary!
