That is REALLY nice, of course it's just dyeing to be made a dynamic network link (hint: click to open it as one)

(Edit: to clarify see this blog post, which might explain it better than this cryptic reference, of course if it doesn't work do let me know)

Great idea Valery. I can't believe I didn't think about FlashEarth being able to be used now. It's too bad you can't load up FlashEarth with a specific maps/coordinate in mind. That would be a useful way to compare a particular view from another mapping database.

Re: GE 4.2 Embed flash maps in balloon

Frank,
See my other post , I can't however think of a nice way to match GE 'range' to FE 'zoom', so its all very approximate now. I thought about making the map type an option, quite easy to do I guess, just need to lookup the abbreviations FE takes in the URL.

Re: GE 4.2 Embed flash maps in balloon

Not sure if the flash object with go transparent, it didnt seem to in quick tests... (ah, do you just mean the frame? so the flash object is borderless? that might be possible)

However it would need a closer match of the zoom levels to be meaningful.

Anybody fancy working out a conversion equation? it would probably only need a few points in a spreadsheet, and then to find a line of best fit. (I would do it but I need to get some sleep, will try it if nobody else does tomorrow evening)

Frank, Barry
Flashearth we can run with parameters:
http://www.flashearth.com/flash_earth.swf?lat=43.3&lon=5.5&z=7.2&r=0

Barry can adapt script:
http://www.nearby.org.uk/google/flashearth.kml.php?
to call of coordinates and uses BBOX from network link for calculation of parameters. This construction can return map in actual view maybe?

Re: GE 4.2 Embed flash maps in balloon

Doesnt it do that already?

For me the flashearth map has the same center and rotation as the current view when you click the white arrow icon. The zoom is a rough approximation, but is reasonable. (edit: I take that back the zoom is rubbish, will leave that till tomorrow, but the centering does work for me at least)

Its a view based refresh, so as 1 second after you stop, the arrow jumps to the center of the view.

... if not then there a bug along the line somewhere...

Re: GE 4.2 Embed flash maps in balloon

have performed a few updates…
http://www.nearby.org.uk/blog/2007/08/29/flashearthgoogleearth-part-2/

Executive summary:
1. The zoom is a LOT closer matched, thanks to a logarithmic formula.
2. Removed the title and the directions links, makes the balloon looks a bit nicer, couldn’t get it to go transparent for me tho… suggestions welcome.
3. When the network link is now a folder so can choose the size of your popup The previous version is now the ‘medium’ one.

Though the magic of the web, you get 1) and 2) automatically, if want 3) just download it again:

Open in Google Earth (Required: GE 4.2+ Windows)

Cool! This see fine to me Thanks, Barry!
Custom balloonstyle see very good. Center, scale and rotation is ok.
Maybe best uncheck "Allow this folder to be expanded" in network links?

Re: GE 4.2 Embed flash maps in balloon

Hi, is this trick broken? When viewing the google earth document http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=986386 I get a black box where the flash document should be and I get the same on my google map http://vcfa.890m.com/CA075_SanFrancisco_BG_UI_Tiles_region.html (click anywhere to make a marker at which point a bubble will popup with a black box where the flash content should be, click the marker again to remove it--if you look at the source code towards the end of the javascript you will see the:

var html = ...
marker.openInfoWindowHtml(html);

bit where I try to implement this trick with the lat and lon variables being dynamicly updated with the desired location of the marker. I at first thought that I may be implementing the variables wrong in the html but now that I see that the same results are given in the sample google earth document (http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/download.php?Number=986386) have the flashearth administrators blocked this trick? (perhaps based on how google earth/maps api identifies itself to the server)

Re: GE 4.2 Embed flash maps in balloon

Nevermind, turned out the HTML variable had some mistakes in it and the trick only seems to work in Internet Explorer. I have updated the online copy of the map so those who are interested can take a look at a working code example.
