Re: Aircraft In Flight "Street View"

Thats pretty cool.
I never thought of looking. Not sure if i should add them to the collection on top of the forum though seeing as it isnt a actual data picture.
If enough are found and people want them there I could start a new folder for street view aircraft.

Here's a plane landing at LAX. I'm assuming it's landing because of the photo position in relation to the runway?

Same Aircraft as above post but I got the BELLY!!!!! Things Ive learned in this early search. First you cannot expect to see the aircraft in flight from the satellite images as they are not the same, simple observation but it did not don on me imediately and second NOT all "street view" images allow you to look "up" directly above the vehicle. Makes for a fun search and I hope others can find the challenge worthy, Happy Hunting.

Hi MNJ,
Very good idea, the possibilities for helping collections and other IDs where no other
photos are available, despite the images for Google Earth and Street View not being
taken at the same time,if that is correct, are great.

Your capture of the FEDEX DC10 in the bubbles is brilliant.

Re: Aircraft In Flight "Street View"

Steps to using Street View GE.

1. GE 4.3 required.

2. Be sure to toggle Street View Layer.

3.When viewing a post with a link, be sure to double click the bubble zoomed in on.

4. If you want to step forward or backward a frame simply click "exit photo" in the upper right and then drag the images to the frame you want.

5. Rotate etc. works well for orientation of the image/bubble.

6. Posting a link in the forum is basically the same as with satellite images however you must place your pin prior to double clicking the image bubble.

Measuring tool makes things go haywire so Id suggest not using it.

Im always looking for new angles to explore the available data base and this is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor, (no pun intended) and put up some original first ever seen posts!!!! If you have any problems with street view and I can help feel free to send me a message or post within the thread Id be more than glad to help. Happy Hunting P.S. Hi mnj1233,

As you say if you move up and down the road you can see it is defiantly a plane.

Do you scroll along the rows of image bubbles sideways looking in the direction of
the airports or just scroll straight up the middle of them to see the planes ?

You have a bit of a collection here now.

I saw you used Street View for a POP post as well.

Actually I dont usually scroll the frames. I just pick strategic spots and venture out on the horizon. Re: Aircraft In Flight "Street View"

I'm betting it's a red-tail hawk. It's almost certainly a raptor, and I'd bet the mortgage that it's a bird of some kind, not an aircraft. ZOOM in to look at the details, and you'll see the following:

1) Color. Dark brown wings, lighter brown towards the body.

2) Leading edge of the wing curves aft near the tip.

3) Trailing edge of the wing curves toward the wingtip at the base, i.e. the base of the wing is fat, curving at the root towards a pointy tip.

4) Triangular-shaped tail, no visible vertical stabilizer.

Most light aircraft are painted white, or some high-visibilty color, for safety reasons. I've never seen a brown or dark-colored small airplane. Almost all light aircraft have straight edges on both leading and trailing edges. The wing itself may be a trapezoid, not a rectangle, but the leading and trailing edges are almost always straight edges. Delta-wing shapes for the horizontal stabilizers are not something I'm aware of, and the bird doesn't appear to have a vee-tail, it appears triangular to me.

Besides, it has to be a hawk because all the little black birds on the wire in the foreground look scared to me.

Just a tip for those who may be new to street view links, once you have zoomed in on the link be sure to double click the camera/bubble image to view from the ground. You will then often have to pan the sky for the aircraft. Its kinda like geo-caching in that I get ya close then you find the plane......Good Luck Happy Hunting.

Minneapolis MN 3 Lander

During this drive thru the neibhorhood it was difficult for me to look to the skies as this was my old stomping grounds and the area I grew up in. Spent many days skipping school to just lay in the sun and play frisbee looking at girls....not neccessarily in that order. Anyway I did hear something, looked up and low and behold an airplane was flying overhead. [image]http://[/image] [image][/image]

Chino CA

Chino California I was in search of a vintage warbird but to no avail. All I could find was this chopper which was very difficult to verify. I have come to the conclusion after a hundred frames it is indeed a chopper landing. The second jpeg however is questionable as I cannot confirm a "Flight of Two". [image][/image] [image][/image]

Re: Aircraft In Flight "Street View"

Hi mnj,
Well done,100 posts in 20 days, most of them your own work.
I know these are difficult to find but as you say while trying to find these you can see lots of other interesting things.
There must be other things that are spotted from the sky which could be confirmed with "Street View".
Some of the collections could have a "Street View" collection running in tandem with them.

All the best,and keep searching,

ploppy

Coeur De Alene

Coeur D Alene, very cool little field with quite the mix of traffic. Posted a bonus pic of some aerobatic aircraft also on the field. [image][/image] [image][/image]
