To back up a working cache of google earth???

Hey! Here is my story. I use google earth a lot. I got a lot of cache, a lot of my places etc. Then something goes wrong with my windows and I have to reinstall it. But before I do it, I want to back up my google earth cache, my places, settings etc. So, I copy all the folders about google earth to my d drive. Then, I reinstall windows and google earth. And I copy (overwrite) the file files about google earth (that I copied to D earlier) inside proper folders. Finally, I open google earth aand! It's brand new. No my places, no cache, no nothing. This happened 2-3 times. I want to figure this out. Can someone please help me. Thanks in advance.

For a Windows system, see the files which are important (myplaces) in the posting Avoiding Application Aborts.

Thanks for the reply.

"The key database files to watch are:

Windows 2000 and XP
---- C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth\dbCache.dat
---- C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth\dbCache.dat.index
---- C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Google\GoogleEarth\myplaces.kml"

I already copied these files. But the google earth doesn't show them. Neither cache, nor my places.
