A test for the Google Earth Gurus

OK, Guys - who were the Seattle Seahawks playing, and what was the final score?

First correct post, showing proofs, will earn the honorary title of Grand Google Wizard, or somesuch.

Cheers

Re: A test for the Google Earth Gurus

Hi Frank. I live near Seattle, but unfortunately don't follow football too closely. Nor have I been very successful w/ tracking down when individual photo's were taken. I am excited, tho, because there are many people who are excellent at such things here. Once the date is nailed down it's a simple matter of seeing who they played that day. Then you're just one step away from identifying the play. Could these players on the field be the first individual persons identified in keyhole?

I'm guessing they were playing Atlanta, final score 28-26. Seahawks WON!

My Guess is.....

vrs SF 49er's 9-26-2004

Seattle Killed the 49er's 34-0!

The angle of the Sun is too high for Dec or Jan games.
Plus leaves are on the Tree's.

But a Guess.
Could be 2003 season!

Re: A test for the Google Earth Gurus

I'd almost guarantee that it's a coug game....not only the logo in the center, but look at the color of the crowd...

Definately crimson and silver (WSU colors), not blue and silver (Seahawk colors).

Not sure of score...looking now...

Here we go:

August 30, 2003 - WSU vs Idaho in Seattle!!!

Final Score

WSU 25
Idaho 0

http://wsucougars.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/recaps/083003aaa.html

Article briefly mentions that the game was played at seahawk stadium, additionally:

http://wsucougars.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/083003aaa.html

Second row of pictures, middle pic clearly shows the Seahawk stadium logo (upper deck) with a cougar receiver attempting a reception.

What do I win?

Finally I GOT IT!

100% I'm sure on this one.

They were playing Minnesota the final score 48-23. Seahawks WON!

Actually I'm not 100% sure and I am going to post random games until I get it right.

Re: A test for the Google Earth Gurus

I just have to say that this is my favorite thread of the keyhole BBS. How cool is it that they nailed a game in progress? Only other one I've found was a baseball game at PNC Park (Pirates) in Pittsburgh.

And here we have a goal line stand, no less!!

Definitely a college game. That couger logo is NOT there during Seahawks games. Rich_B is close, but WRONG! That game on Aug.30, 2003, was a NIGHT game!

Keep trying, peoples.

Re: A test for the Google Earth Gurus

Ok I think I got it. WSU only plays 1 game per year at Qwest Field, so this really should be pretty easy. Also I was mistaken about the "goal-line stand." The offence is going the other way. Looks like the Cougars are playing D (white helmets, dark jerseys... they're red but you can't see it) and their opponents, in white jerseys, are on offence with their backs up against the wall. In the game recap for 9/11/04, WSU v. CO (game ended at 3:37pm), it says "Colorado made a late goal line stand." So Colorado stopped WSU on the goal line, which probably happened on the previous play to the GE shot, giving Colorado the ball on their own 3 yard line. I'd say 1st or 2nd down, 4th quarter.

In fact, I just looked at the game tracker. With 17 seconds left in the game, WSU was trying to score and get a 2 point conversion to tie it. WSU had the ball at the 5 yard line, second and goal, and... rush up the middle... FUMBLE! CO recovers. So the next play (the last play of the game), when CO has the ball, about to rush up the middle to run the clock out, could be the GE shot.

Fact: CO had the ball on the 2 yrd. line on the last play of the game. (fits)
Fact: CO defended the north goal in the second half. (fits)
Fact: Game started at 12:30 (fits with the shadows)

But... why isn't the crowd filling the aisles to leave?
Answer: "football game which will be followed by activities and by Cougar Night at Safeco Feild". They're chilling cause their ticket is good for a whole day's worth or college yip-yip.

So, I give you: Cougars Fall To Colorado 20-12, Sept. 11, 2004 . GE shot of Seattle: 3:36pm, September 11th, 2004!
WSU's webpage.

Re: A test for the Google Earth Gurus

I believe you are wrong. It is a Coug game, and the Seahawks don't play with that logo on the field. I am a Seahawk season ticket holder and have been to every game at Seahawks stadium and Qwest field. The one reason I think that you are wrong is the name of the Stadium. The naming rights were awwarded to Qwest in June of 2004, and the name change happened by the 21st of August of 2004. So if this game took place in Sept of 04, the name on the roof would have said Qwest Field, not Seahawks stadium.

Try, Try again.

Re: A test for the Google Earth Gurus

This game in Seahawks Stadium (now Qwest Field) is Washington State vs. Nevada.
Played 8/31/2002.
If you go to the space needle it is gold.
The space needle was painted gold in 2002 for the 40th Anniversary.
It was only gold in 2002. Unless you count when it was originally painted.

The space needle is almost 2 miles away and would more than likely have been captured on a different day. Go to layers and click Digital Globe Coverage and you will see the dates of various images.

Re: A test for the Google Earth Gurus

Well, I have actually nailed this down to one play.

It is during the August 31, 2002 WSU game against Nevada. The score at the time of this play is tied at 7.

Washington State has the ball with a First down on the 3 yard line with 11:37 remaining in the second quarter. The play will be a 3 yard rush by John Tippins (#25). It is literally the only play in the game that would be at this location, with these teams aranged as they are.

Evidence:
1) The game was in 2002 or 2003, the stadium was repainted in 2004 as "Qwest Field" before any game was played there.
2) In the two games that WSU played there in that time frame, WSU played with white jerseys against Nevada's dark blue, and with (very) red Crimson jerseys against Idaho's white. There are no Crimson jerseys on the field of this play, just white and a dark blue or black.
3) Digital layers do not give any date that match the possibilities, but the Space Needle was definitely shot between August 30 and September 2, 2002. This is evidenced by the Bumbershoot Arts and Music Festival taking place near and around the Needle, as well as the orange top. The Idaho game took place during Bumbershoot as well, but not while the Needle had an orange top. Too coincidental to dismiss.
4) WSU is on its own 3 yard line, and in formation before the start of a play. It only started one play on its own 3 yard line. In the Idaho game (where THEY wore the white jerseys), the Vandals never started a play on their own 3 yard line.

Anyhow... Go Cougs!

I can't find a picture of the play (yet), but I'm sure it's out there...

American Football. We don't watch the other kind, no matter how much they pay Beckham.

Oh, yeah, the final score was Washington State Cougars 31, Nevada Wolfpack 7

They also nailed the Oregon vs. Stanford game at Autzen Stadium on 9-2-06. Looks like it was right at the start of the game as the band is lined up on the field at the mouth of the tunnel.
