2200+ Remote Control (RC) Airplane Clubs & Runways

Hello Everyone - This is my list of Remote Control Airplane Flying Clubs and the location of the Runway.  The data represents the closest city / town to the Club's Field / Runway, the State and Country.  The I, II, III, IV, etc represent the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) District Number.  The last number is the Club's AMA Charter Member ID Number.  I have captured the location of 2200 RC Fields Internationally with about 80% being in the lower 48.  The AMA has close to 2500 clubs on their roster, so I am missing just over half of them.  If any of you find any I haven't found, please post it or let me know by PM and I'll add it to the list.

I also have a full blown Excel database file that has a BUNCH of Club info on it which was the source document I used to create the Google Earth file.  As I add more RC Clubs to the Excel file, I then update this file GE from that.  Both files are in sync.  If anyone is interested in downloading the Excel file,  I have it Zipped up and posted on my little MSN website as well as in one of the Flying Giants forums.  One thing that is pretty cool is the ability to directly upload these Excel files into programs such as MSN's Streets and Trips.  Look below for a link to my website and the FG’s site if your interested. If you check some of these Clubs out, you will be surprised I think at how much work has gone into most of them.  Most Clubs with Asphalt or Concrete runways have had to paint the big X's on the ends of the runways so full scale pilots don't mistake them for the real thing.

Here is a link to Putt's RC Home Page: Putts RC Home Page My Excel Files were last updated on:  October 25th, 2008

Here is a link to Flying Giants, a very cool RC Forum Site on the Web -  Flying Giants

Here is BratzelWatz's version of a RC Club Coordinates File for Germany: 350 Modellflugplätze - R/C Airfields in Germany

Michael Osterlund from Uppsala, Sweden has contacted me and I have posted his Coordinate files for Sweden and Denmark in mine.  Here is a link to his website that also has an Excel version of the data like I do on my site, pretty cool -  Propellerhead's GPS Page (don't miss the other pages)

Carlos (twentynine) has allowed me to post his RC Club locations of Italy.  I have them posted in the International Folder.  For a direct load of Carlos's file see 'Posted by twentynine' below.  There is also another file of Slope Glider points.  Thanks Carlos.

NormB from New Zealand has allowed me to post his RC Club file, Thanks A Bunch Norm.  It's a great addition.  Please check out the New Zealand file in the International Folder

Good Luck in your searching of RC Clubs here on GE.  We are ALWAYS looking for new members to train to fly our RC planes and in joining our Clubs  , so if your interested, please do so, it's a BLAST !!

For what it's worth, you're exactly correct for the Champaign County RC Club in Illinois. That's quite a list!

Re: Remote Control Airplane Clubs and Their Fields

Hi Munden - I think over about 5 years I've accumlated close to 1100 RC Fields so far. The Excel spread sheet I have them on also has links to the club websites themselves, links to imagery as well as weather. Next to each club is also listed the number of runways and what they are made of, grass, asphalt, concrete, etc. Last is what kind of flying is allowed, sport, combat, helicopters, float planes, etc. What I really like about the Excel file is being able to upload it to programs such as MSN's Streets and Trips and plan vacations around them. These also are all downloaded into my Magellans, so I always have a lead to a field, even when I'm in new country.

Re: Remote Control Airplane Clubs and Their Fields

Hello All - I just thought I'd explain something that was asked of me. For those RC Club Runways that are not in the high def imagery, how did I spot them? For all of those which can't be seen due to the lo def imagery, I used the old TerraServer imagery, comparing that to directions and recent photos posted on the RC Clubs websites, as well as picking out landmarks. So even though they can't be seen in Google Maps or Earth yet, hopefully they will be in the near future. They really are all there....

Re: 1000+ Remote Control (RC) Airplane Clubs & Runways

Hello All - I have updated my file by including a few more clubs that I received info for via e-mail in another RC Forum as well as adding a few I found by browsing / searching for here on GE (hope no one minds) that I didn't have, most of these being outside the U.S.A.

Once again, if anyone is interested in more details on any of these such as contact names / Px numbers, or Club Website address, use on of the links from my original post. I also have the full blown database file which is what I'm copying and pasting about 30% of the data from to create the GE file. If anyone would like it just PM me and I'll attach it. It is an Excel file which can be uploaded directly into programs such as MSN's Streets and Trips if your interested in planning an RC Plane vacation

Thanks again for your help and keep new ones coming.

I saw your approximate location placemark for the R/C flying site in Lake County Illinois. (Off by about 0.65 mi, not too bad...) I have a friend that flies R/C as a hobby, so I know the exact location and made a placemark with what I think is better detailed info. Feel free to make use of it to update your list.

Thanks for the correct spot for the field. Sometimes all I have had to go off of are the written directions or bad maps to try and locate the runways. I have usually been able to find them dead center, but once and awhile one has gotten away from me. Next time I update the file here, I'll have the new location on it.

I don't know how many have this bookmarked for replys, but if you do ------ I just wanted to let everyone know I uploaded an update to the file. I went through all 1200+ clubs and re-verified locations now that more of the detailed imagery is available. I did end up changing the location of maybe 2 dozen clubs. Since the last update I have also added those that folks have been kind enough to let me know about. I have also added some my old fashioned way by just tracking new ones down.

Hope you all continue to enjoy this one and continue to let me know of sites I've missed.

Re: 1100+ Remote Control (RC) Airplane Clubs & Runways

I have added a few new fields due to some kind folks sending me the data, thanks and I always appreciate it. Also moved a few field locations. One in Lousiana due to a road being built and the field being moved to the NW about 500ft and one up in Montana which I had just placed in the wrong spot, it was actually about 1000 ft to the North. I hope to be able to visit more of these RC Clubs this summer with a plane in the car and ready to fly

Just thought I would add a note: I just tried viewing my data in the Google Map mode, and the file is to large for it to bring in even a 1/4 of all of the points, so it doesn't do you much good I'm afraid.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and New Year.

Hi Gang - Just thought I'd post a note to let you know about the latest posting of the RC Club.KMZ file. I continue to add Clubs in the U.S., but I have also added a bunch lately in what I call the Foreign Clubs Folder. I have been e-mailing back and forth with a guy from the Netherlands who provided me a bunch of sites in both the Netherlands and Belgium - Thanks Again I have also added quite a few in the past few days up in Canada. I'm going to concentrate on Canada for awhile since that is closer in a lot of respects to my location then most of the Lower 48. I just counted and I have collected 1340 Clubs to date. Hope you are all continuing to enjoy this file and I hope you all continue to help me add Clubs as you see and find them.

Well - I know since my last post I said I was going to concentrate on the Canadian Clubs I could find, but I got side tracked by a new friend from 'Down Under' who has helped me put quite a few Clubs from 'Oz' on the map. Some really nice Fields as well RC Club Websites, sorry I haven't provided that info in the Google Earth file but it would get a little large. Folks can get the full blown database download from my little MSN website and downloading the Excel files. I do need to re-create them and get them up to date to match the GE - KMZ file. From the looks of the download number this has been popular. Please remember to e-mail me or post new fields you find.

Thanks again,
Gregg

Re: 1410+ Remote Control (RC) Airplane Clubs & Runways

Quick update on the file. With the help of a couple of new friends from Australia, I just finished a little project that allowed me to add about 80 new field locations in the Victoria and New South Wales area's of AU. The guys provided me with a PDF with around 76 individual maps that I was able to use to locate all but 1 or 2. So those, along with the individal e-mails and a link to the AU RC Association website, I now have parts of AU pretty well covered.

So, who's next with providing some info for the International File

Well, until next time, Thanks Again for all of the Help from everyone !

Here is Koczargi, the RC club near Warsaw, Poland. It's one of the very few (sadly) RC clubs in Poland. It's pretty nice, however. The placemark is extremely precise, the photos in GE of this area are just too old to have this RC club.

Hi Everyone - Well it's been quite awhile since I posted a note rather then just updating the GE file. I have included about all of the International Clubs I have received info on, and a BIG THANK YOU to all who helped!!

The latest updates have been additions mainly to the AMA file, and with most of those being in Dist. VIII. I still have about 50 more to verify and import as I have time.

Thanks to John L. from Luke AFB today for sending me a single one. Would be a way COOL place to be able to hang out just to watch the AF planes coming and going on the Active runways.

Keep'em coming folks and Thanks

GPutt33,
You have listed incorrect information on the club fields in Marana,AZ. which could possibly cause serious problems!!
The club field that you have labeled as "Marana RC" is actually Avra Valley RC and more importantly we use EVEN Channels!!!
The S.A.G.E. field uses ODD channels!!!
Please correct your tags as soon as possible.

Spad2 – Thanks so much for the data to correct. This particular error surely could have caused some problems with the two fields being so close. If you recheck both of the fields now and my comments you should see I’ve got it changed per your post. I haven’t had to make many corrections, and those have mainly been location changes. This one was definitely the worst one I could have created. Sorry and please accept my apologies. The last thing I would want is to be responsible in a weird way for a fellow pilot getting shot down.

Please keep looking and QCing the data for me, it can only continue to get better.

Hi George - I'm not sure what to tell you about the error problem. I just went to the GE site and my thread and downloaded it and it seemed to open fine. I am having a lot of issues with GE lately, actually about 4 upgrades ago. Mine just keeps crashing after I've flown around in it for awhile and have tried to save some new RC sites. I've gone on to the help page and tried several of the fixes they talk about, but to date nothing has really helped. Wished I saved my old GE downloads, I'd be going back to an older version.

Hello guys!

I just got on Google Earth for the first time today. I was really plesed and surprised to find a listing for my RC club's field, The Statesville Model Flyers. However, you have the location of our previous field. We moved last May to a location about 5 miles east of town. The coordinates are:

Latitude 35 deg. 46.18 minutes North
Longitude: 80 deg 47.11 minutes West

It is a much nicer field with great approaches and a large overfly area. Also we are not being surronded by urban development.

I hope you can update the Google Earth Listing.

Re: 1000+ Remote Control (RC) Airplane Clubs & Runways

Hi Jack - the "Colorado Dawn Patrol" is an Remote Control Airplane Club. "Dawn Patrol" normally relates to the planes used during WWI that were bi-planes and tri-planes who would go up at dawn and patrol the areas looking for troop movements during the night. In RC, some of these guys like to get up early and fly in the same scale manner that the full scale pilots flew in that era.

Sorry it took so long to find your question and answer it, but sometimes I get confused on how the GE files get placed. Hopefully you find this and it answers your question.

I see your from Perth, so don't be surprised to find a bunch of my RC icons "Down Under". I've made some good email friends from down your way and they have helped me add a lot of icons to your Country.

GPUT33
I just found this board and wanted to let you and other flyers know that an RC Slope soring site pegged to Carter Lake outside Berthoud, Co. USA is very close to my home flying site. I live about .75 miles directly east of the " Carter Lake RC Slope" site and I fly regularly on channels 29, 38, and Ham frequency 53.8. this is just a cautionary note to anyone who may want to slope soar at the Carter Lake site that I may be flying nearby on my own hill. I fly sailplanes and power in my backyard and have my own slope since I live on a ridge. If conditions are right for sloping the Sarter lake site, there is a good chance I'll be flying at home. Of course, if you're flying 2.4 GHz, it should be no problem. Maybe you could post a precaution in the comment card that is displayed for the Carter site to not fly on 29, 38 and 53.8. Thanks.

Re: 2200+ Remote Control (RC) Airplane Clubs & Run

Thanks for letting me know. I've got the one located down south at the race track deleted and the Club's actual site moved so it's on the runway now as well. Thanks again for the info.

Hello GPutt33,

I think it would be nice to add Hodges Hobbies field, the home of SEFF fly-in to your huge database:
32.1239° N
-84.1297° W

It's not really an RC club, but a huge field privately owned by Hodges Hobbies RC store.

Website of the Hodges Hobbies shop and field:

Here is a club field in Frauenfeld Switzerland, it is run by:

MG Frauenfeld
http://www.mg-frauenfeld.ch/

longitude 8.908673225991342
latitude 47.57523991059534

That should put you right in the center of the runway

Re: 2200+ Remote Control (RC) Airplane Clubs & Runways

Hello,

User BratzelWaltz (there may be a mistake in name) updated his club databse, mainly because I sent him several interesting club locations in Austria. Since you have a database which is much larger and much more frequently used, please include his updated data in your database.

Thanks,
Szymon B

I have taken BratselWatz's file and updated it in this database file. They should now be synced up again. Thanks for supplying RC data to us.
