I am trying to collect prison placemarks.
As of today, I just looked up the prison placemarks on the BBS, organized them in folders for continents, subfolders for countries and, for the US, in sub-sub folders for states. Then I set the eye-altitude for all of them to 1000 m to make comparison of the sizes of the prisons easier.
I also added a little bit of my own.
There is still much work to do but I posted it now to give anyone interested a chance to participate.
I plan this to be a work in progress. So anyone who has placemarks for prisons, please post them to this thread and I will update the KMZ file and edit it in this post. Especially prisons in South and Central America, Asia, Africa and Europe.
Some useful links to official prison homepages and background informations would be fine too. I will put the links into the descriptions.
If you find any errors, please tell me.

This one is very famous in Turkiye. There is only one prisoner in this jail. His name's Abdullah Ocalan who was the leader of a terrorist organization PKK.

Nice project indeed!!! Here is my contribution.
Wormwood Scrubs High Security Prison, London, UK. It is a very well known prison in Britain. Long long time ago a Russian spy escaped from that prison and I think a movie was made about that story!!

Mmm... lol, u dont care about the prisoners in Argentina? Well, take a look in Buenos Aires, do u see the Ezeiza airport? Down u can see 3 prisons. And in the Distrito Federal u can see another one in Deboto. Well my friend, take a look cause America del Sur exist hehehe. Ahh... and what about Garandiru in Brazil?

Built in 1809 Dartmoor prison held French and American prisoners of war. It became a criminal prison from 1850. Most of the buildings date from the late 19th century but 3 wings have recently been fully refurbished. Integral sanitation in all but one wing, and a new kitchen has been built.
Dartmoor is a category C training prison. Following a Performance Test in 2003 Dartmoor now operates under a Service Level Agreement (SLA). Dartmoor has done much in recent years to shake off its historically austere image, and boasts the outstanding Public Service Team of 2004-05 and the 2004-05 Prison Officer of the Year Titles."

The squared in place just south of Hakea Prison is the Canningvale Juvenile Detention Centre. The prison for when prisoners arent old enough. I drive past it every week.

Prison you located in Slovakia is the biggest one and its name is Leopoldov (very nice hires)
The others in SLovakia I know , but not able to locate , are in: Ilava, SK
Trnava, SK (womans prison)
Sabinov, SK (military prison)
You may try to fly there and to locate them (all in Lowres areas).
Maybe there are even more prisons, but there is not an oficcial list of prisons on webpages of the responsible ministry (I was just searching for)

Here's the remainder of the prisons in Wales, UK. You've already got HMP Swansea and HMP Parc, so I've added Cardiff, Usk and HMP & YOI Prescoed. They are all low-res at the moment. I worked out exact postions by getting the postal code from the Prison Service website and then using multimap.co.uk to get a detailed map. Maybe next weekend I'll have the time to start working on the other UK jails, but that will take some time.

Somebody please add the prisons of the dirty south! We have none for Texas and very few across the bible belt. These are some of the most #&*$$# prisons on the planet. Do we have an expert or enthusiast that can help us out and add these prisons?

Death Row Prisons & Level V Maximum Security

Ok, so I got into it a little bit. There is a mountain of work to do. But here is the tip of the iceberg:
1) Louisiana State Penitentiary (10 Placemarks w/ detailed descriptions)
....including the Death Row building, with currently 84 inmates in line
....a museum, with "Old Sparky" the electric chair
....a golf course, called "Prison View", for visitor's only, of course
....the annual prison inmate rodeo
2) Nebraska State Penitentiary
3) Kentucky State Penitentiary, with a link to /profiles/ (with pics) of the 36 inmates on death row.
4) Arkansas State Prison, Maximum Security Unit, Tucker Unit
5) William Donaldson Correctional Facility, Alabama
6) Holman Prison, Alabama
7) Colorado State Penitentiary
8) Arizona State Prison - Florence (w/ details about gas chamber)
Maybe when I have some more time I can get into Georgia and Texas. On a political note, I can only hope that these barbaric institutions of state-sponsered killing will some day in the future be abolished, and will become just another black spot on our notorious American history. Holme House is a purpose built local Category B prison, which opened in May 1992.
It expanded in the late nineties with the building of two further houseblocks providing 235 additional places. Two new workshops (57 places) opened in 1997.
The prison primarily serves the communities of Tees Valley, South West Durham, East Durham and North Yorkshire
Accommodation: Six self-contained living units with integral sanitation. A mixture of single and double cells.
Operational Capacity: 994 as of 22nd April 2005
Reception Criteria: Unconvicted and convicted male adult prisoners and unconvicted male young adults.

This former RAF station, situated near to the small town of Amble in Northumberland, was acquired by the Prison Service in 1971 and the prison opened in 1972. Isle Of Wight Prisons

You seem to be lacking three prisons on the Isle Of Wight, in the UK - Britain's own Alcatraz..... Camp Hill, Parkhurst and Albany are in very very close proximity (indeed, I grew up next door to Albany, where my father was an officer). Parkhurst is famous for having been the home to many notorious UK criminals, including the Kray Twins and the Yorkshire Ripper in 'C' wing for dangerous prisoners. Albany housed very high security terrorist prisoners in the 1980's, including Patrick McGee, the Brighton bomber. Camp Hill is a more sedate affair, generally holding prisoners on remand - it was a category C nick if memory serves me.

I found 5 prisions in Mexico:
Centro de menores infractores - For teenagers
Consejo tutelar de menores - I think the most important prision for teenagers in mexico
Reclusorio sur - one of the oldest and overpopulated prisions in mexico city.
CEFERESO 1 "Almoloya" or "La Palma" - Maximum Security Prision, The worst and dangerous criminals can be found in this prision (Mexican and foreigners), the security is extended about a radius of 10 km from the prision, recently included cell phones no-signal. Major number of prisioners in this jail are important drug dealers, brutal and fearless kidnapers, and political mafia leaders. Some others are killers, like Mario Aburto, the guy who kill Luis Donaldo Colosio (candidate to presidence in the middle 90's)
CEFERESO 2 "Puente Grande" - Same as above.
By the way, CEFERESO means "Centro Federal de Readaptacion Social"; translated: "Federal Center of Social Readaptation"

Overcrowed Jails. We've solved the problem in Arizona with tent city. The inmates only get to wear pink underwear. This cuts down on the escaping. Althought 3 men escaped on 10/4/2005.

Here's all the State Prisons from Arizona. You had the Florence one in the wrong location, so If fixed it and added the rest of the ones run by the state. There are many private prisons in the state, but those are not listed here.

I'm sure you're keen to put Mt Eden prison in Auckland, but I don't think many people would appreciate it being positioned at the war memorial museum in the Auckland Domain.

hello mate
there is a prison close to me in Wakefield, it is one of the most important one in the uk, it,s a top security prison and has held some of the most dangerous prisoners , like peter sutcliffe the "yorkshire ripper" for a while, a lot of the IRA members, and was the place where Dr Harold Shipman hung himself, i belive he is the man who was the biggest mass murder in the UK possibbly the World.
Also it gave us the nursery rhyme " here we go ,round the Mullberry bush" there was a Mullberry bush in the centre of the exercise yard and the women and childern would sing it while excersieing.
