Re: HYDRA :star streams changing colors

G'Day venne, welcome to the GE Community.

What you have found is more than likely an imagery problem.

Click on the following link to see similar problems and possible explanations,

Lines and Hieroglyphics,

If you like, you can add these ones that you have found to the existing list, see advice in the linked post.

Cheers,

Re: HYDRA :star streams changing colors

If it is a imagery problem then why are the object and stars interacting?

Re: HYDRA :star streams changing colors

Lets not think of the imagery glitch as an object, maybe it is an imagery exposure that could be caused by reflection, refraction or even a light leak.

The apparent colour change reaction could be caused simply due to the different exposure settings nearer the brighter light source or even any filtering ?

I reckon the man holding the camera would have a better idea !

Re: HYDRA :star streams changing colors

I am curiuos, and do not claim that I know any better than anyone else and have less education in the matter than anyone who has some, any information about this would be helpful, I really just want to know how often these images are updated and to see after the next update if this is still there, or gone to see if indeed it is a imaging problem.

Re: HYDRA :star streams changing colors

I'm not that sure that there is any scheduled update of the imagery, but would be pretty confident that the good people from STSci have plans for adding more recent and better imagery as it becomes available.

http://hubblesite.org/explore_astronomy/gsky/

I believe that it took some two years for them to compile this database, so, being relatively new, and being such a large project, I would imagine that it will take some time to gather all of the imagery glitches information and then, if available, update or edit them.

In most of these cases, an image with a glitch may be better than no image at all.

There is one factor to consider, if what you have found was in fact an object rather than an imagery problem, you could bet your bottom dollar that we all would have heard about it well before now !
