Galactic Collision

I think if i am seeing this right these two galaxies are about to collide!
Note: If the file doesn't work I will also list the coordinates (if you have that much spare time).

Coordinates:
Dec -26* 53'09.58
RA 13h54min18.92s

Re: Galactic Collision

It could well be that these two galaxies are in the process of colliding. It might also be the case that one of the galaxies is much closer to us than the other. If that's the case, and the distance between the two is more than, say, 50 or 100 million light-years, there would be no gravitational interaction between the two.

Without knowing the distance to the two galaxies, you can't say that the two are colliding. It might just be a coincidental alignment on the face of the Sky.

Nice find, though.

Re: Galactic Collision

They look to be at about the same distance. The one to the south west appears to be gravitationally distorted. So, they are probably in the process of colliding / merging. There are simulations online of galaxy collisions that will show you what it looks like.
