A Type Ia magnitude 14.6 (currently mag12.9) supernova, 2007gi, , was discovered on the 31th July, 2007, by Koichi Itagaki in the regular lenticular galaxy NGC 4036 in the constellation ursa major.
The supernova is located 23" west and 11" south of the centre of the galaxy.
