A long time ago, in GE History, Michael Jones was known to have spoken about how cool it would be to implement the time dimension in GE (see story in Dec. 2005 post at OgleEarth). As we all know, in the summer of 2006, the time feature was first released as part of a GE 4 beta.
During Michael's presentation in 2005, he showed an example of a UFO sightings database over time. For a long time, I've been meaning to take the UFO Sightings Google Earth (and Google Maps) map from UFOmaps.com, and add time stamps. Yesterday, after a fair amount of Emacs macro parsing, I came up with the attached result. (Note: I chose to not include some earlier random sightings - one in 1860, and a few others in the earlier part of the 1900s).
Load up the attachment (2 Mbytes) and play the time animation (or just drag the slider).
You can see the spread of UFO psychosis brought on by TV, junk food, and sci-fi... :-)

It amazes me, sooo many sightings and no decent images from cam corder or cell phone captures. I would assume the aliens must have upgraded their image cloaking detection systems. I even stop and ponder if NASA is on their email list.
Below is an interesting spatial display, icon yellow ball set to size .1
now lets do a correlation to nite club hot spots across the U.S over the same time frame.
Hilarious! The descriptions are quite entertaining. Change some of those smiling spaceships to red and green and you've got this year's geo-holiday card!
But do the aliens only come to the US? I didn't see reports from other countries even on the website's download. Could this mean that all aliens speak English?!
That is a very interesting animation. I think that the most interesting thing about it is that there seems to be a rather dramatic explosion in the number of sightings beginning around the middle of 1995. That also seems to coincide with the release of the controversial Ray Santilli film "Alien Autopsy – Fact or Fiction" broadcast on the FOX network in the spring of that year. I'm sure the aliens just wanted to make an appearance to set the record straight. Ya think???
9/13/1990 10:30:00 PM Hódmezövásárhely, Hungary Reported Shape: elliptical Duration: 10 secs. Report: my mother, a friend of our family and i just have gone outside from the party we have been when i asked what it was. Then we just stood astonished. The object were moving to our direction from the south. It looked rather small and glowed in orange, we could not even ascertain its measure or altitude. After a while it stopped and suddenly streaked to the west. After it disappeared we heared a strange, silent, deep roar and the dogs started to bark all over in the neighborhood.
This is remarkable how many sightings there have been. Nice work on the animation, it is great to have a visual for all this. So the question is...is there something other than us out there?
It's amazing that the aliens discovered us in 1944. You said you left out the earlier "random" sightings (are any sightings non-random?) from 1860 and the earlier part of the 1900's. Did they take a 50 year break after 1860, and then a 30 year break before 1944, when they started visiting us on a regular basis?
How come they haven't left a single credible piece of evidence? Not a single alien beer can, not a piece of alien toilet paper, nothing. Such a shame there's nothing in a museum to show the kids, nothing in a university lab to understand alien technology, nowhere I can go to see for myself.
