City Placemarks Feb 8th, 2008
Some of you have noticed a change we made in the most recent update to Google Earth. This change removed the clickable information balloons. formerly associated with city placemarks in Google Earth. We determined that the population data displayed in these balloons was becoming outdated. Thus in order to provide you the most relevant information, while you tour the globe, we decided to remove this content. We are constantly working to improve the currency and scope of the data we provide in Google Earth. Therefore when we are able to locate the most comprehensive source for this type of information we will endeavor to integrate it back into Google Earth. We appreciate your interest and feedback as we work to improve Google Earth.

Google Earth Outreach Jun 29th, 2007
When Google Earth was launched two years ago, a different and more accessible perspective of the planet became available to millions of users, presently standing at 250,000,000.
At first, it was a place to go to see your house, explore your neighbourhood and maybe see where you went on holiday. But when Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, a new potential for geospatial information enabling a better understanding emerged.
Since then, many non profit organizations contacted us asking questions about how they could integrate Google Earth into their work. Technical help, assistance and inspirational examples were clearly important.
We have now launched the Google Earth Outreach program, offering support to non profit organizations, allowing them to provide an extra viewpoint on their work.
Please read the Official Google Blog release by program manager Rebecca Moore on this exciting new initiative, which includes a video of the launch.

Google Earth KML Gallery Jun 6th, 2007
Since Google Earth was launched, users have been exploring our world and creating content overlays (KML files) to share their explorations with others.
We're now highlighting these KML files in the new Google Earth Gallery To see the 6 new user-created KML files highlighted each week, you can either go to the website or add the gallery's Google Gadget to your iGoogle page.
If you have created any KML files that you feel stand out, you can submit them for consideration here.
The captain has now disabled the seat-belt signs and you are free to explore the Earth.

Today we are creating a new category and some new forums. this category will be a reflection of the current Earth category, with a few exceptions... The forums within this new category will be populated by moderators and administrators moving posts that they feel represent more than just a passing need to stick a pin in the earth's surface. We are not saying these represent only the best, but we are saying we learned something about the Earth, its places, its people, or things upon it, from the posts we move.
Category: Earth Moderated
Forums: Environment and Conservation (Moderated) Earth Browsing (Moderated) Travel Information (Moderated) Transportation (Moderated) Military (Moderated) People and Cultures (Moderated) Nature and Geography (Moderated) History Illustrated (Moderated) Huge and Unique (Moderated) Sports and Hobbies (Moderated)
Original posters may freely edit their posts in the new forums, but any replies to those posts need approval.
