On February 28th 1997, A Bank Robbery took place at the Bank of America, 6600 Laurel Canyon Blvd, North Hollywood, California. where two heavily armoured bank robber's stole $303,305. Then Emil Matasareanu and Larry Philips fired over 1000 armour piercing rounds at LAPD police officers as they tried to make their escape from the bank. Eventually both men were killed by Police Officers after a 45 minute long gun battle which many law enforcement officers have dubbed as the biggest urban combat battle in the history of the United States. Approximately 370 police officers attended the shootout and remarkably, although twelve officers, eight civilians, and one civilian dog, were wounded (only two severely), the gunmen, Matasareanu and Philips were the only people to die that day.

For anyone who may be interested, a movie was made about this incident in 2003 called '44 Minutes: The North Hollywood Shootout'
Now, I know that this project is not 100% accurate or complete, and I know I may not of had all the facts to hand when I made this. I do not live in LA, I was not there when it happened. All I know comes from the sparse accounts of the incident floating around the web. So because of this I am actively encouraging any of you to highlight any errors I have made, and to add things that I may have missed to this project, and most importantly to tell me when I'm wrong. Therefore any mistakes I have made will be rectified and this project will be re-released correctly.
Here is a list of thing's that I still need to find out:
1. The exact location of the store the police used as a temporary command center.
2. Has anybody got an image of the old B&B Gun Sales store that I can use.
3. And finally, if anyone knows it, the location of the house the bank robbers lived in.
Oh yeah, BTW, before any of you tell me that GE has the bank as being located one block to the south, I believe that location is incorrect and the bank IS where I have placemarked, if you look at the map you will see the location of the bank and the streets surrounding it are clealy marked.

Wow, this is a detailed post. I remeber even the hardest critics of the LAPD had to give the department credit that day. Not from LA but hopefuly someone will help you out.

Great posting! 
I have taken a great deal of interest in the incident since I saw the very disturbing pictures back in 1999. What sick sons of bitches those two were! Reading articles about the incident everywhere on the web, I've come to understand what an impact their actions had on the entire community, let alone the city of Los Angeles.
I have found a sattelite picture (thanks to Google Local), and now I've mapped all the streets and key spots on the picture, seen here.

As you can see, your drawing is spot on, I'm pleased to inform you.
However, I'm afraid I cannot position any of the spots you are looking for. Not even the booth is easy to find in the sattelite picture :-(.
I'm seriously contemplating creating a mini-site about the incident, on which I plan to gather all the info, pictures, video and radio transmissions, I've managed to locate. It isn't a plethora, but during the past two years, I think I've found quite a bit.
Hope you can use some of this.

Thanks for the pic, it's good to know I was right about that bank. Thanks for the confirmation and it's a shame you cant help me out further.
I do encourage you to share whatever you have about the incident with the world, as most of the really good sites about the incident are slowly disappearing.

Yeah, I guess I really should just get the site going, huh? Problem is, I have so much work to do currently, so I won't have that much spare time. I'll go ahead and do it, though.
I also plan to invite anybody with the LAPD to contribute. Maybe some of the people involved care to divulge information. Maybe not, but what's the harm done in asking.
Yes, after a long and difficult search, I recently got hold of what I assume is the uncut version of the police radio band. At least it's 42 minutes long, but as far as I can see, it is only the North Hollywood frequency along with the TAC frequency issued when things started to get dangerous. I don't think the Van Nuys band is included at all.
It's 56kbps, which is alright for radio transmissions. I'm doing a transcript right now, and it takes me quite a while, mostly because a lot of the transmissions are quite garbled, fast spoken and not always of supreme quality. I guess dispatchers really develop an ear for that kind of thing.
I'll make sure I include the MP3, when the site comes up. I have a few video clips as well, but no such things as the entire news coverage, I'm afraid. I'd really love to get a hold of them, though.
I recently saw that the History Channel is releasing a DVD on the incident within the next month or so. It looks interesting, but I'm certainly not going to buy it, unless it contains the entire news coverage, and I'm not entire sure judging by the description:

Here is the former location of B&B Guns. It has since moved or went out of business. The location is just North-West of Oxnard and Whitsett intersection. Currently Armenian grocery store occupies the location.

the key making booth is directly to the left of the bottom of the bank of america (across the street to the left of 1997 'north hollywood shootout' location) theres a white car in the car park, then below it a light grey box (the keymaking shop), then a green tree below that,finally a red car
