Thank you so much charliex
This has been one of those places that has been so hard to locate. I appreciate you finding this for me.
At the moment my internet connection has been disconnected at home because I'm planning on moving house soon, but once I'm back up and running I'll update this project and give you the credit you most definately deserve.
Thanks alot.
EDIT: As promised I have updated the placemarks and given you the appropriate credit. Further thanks goes to Tim Doggett for confirming I had posted it correctly

Mezaial, What do we know about this Dental Office? I know that there is a dental office on the corner of Laurel Canyon Blvd and Oxnard Blvd. This office was definitely around during the shootout and it's on the way to B&B Guns. Its possible that the officers were using this particular dental office for these reasons. Do we have any clues at all about the location?
BTW, do you need any current pictures of the locations? I want to drive around and see if the Key Cutting Booth is still there.

i live in the neighborhood, so if anyone needs a "man on the ground", let me know. I can take actual photos, etc.
my apt is on the corner of whitsett and huston (about 2-1/2 miles southwest of the bank). i didn't leave here at the time of the robbery.

Thanks for all the posts.
Sorry I havent been around in a while, new job means I spend all my time working and sleeping.
Welcome mariod1269
I would love to take both you and mvayser up on your offers of a few photographs, We could really use a picture of the Key Cutting Booth, assuming it still exists. Also a picture of the Dentists office if anyone knows where the building is?
I remember reading an account of the incident somewhere some time back, which mensioned that a nearby Dentists office took in some wounded Police Officers and did their best to tend their wounds. It also appears in that movie '44 Minutes' that I referred to at the beginning of this thread. Other than that I know absolutely nothing about this place, and could definately use your help in locating it.
If anyone knows where the bank robbers house was, I'm sure we would all definately love to see a picture of that.
Can anyone think of anything else?
If either of you still want to go take some pictures of the area, I would definately love to see them.
Thanks again for the offer.

The Key Shop is still there and open for business .
The dentist office is still there and operating as well. It is connected to the Ralph's market, (which was Hughes back then). That long building has (from North to South): Ralph's Rite Aid or CVS Pharmacy (one or the other) Dentist office,Plumbers office, some other small businesses Smart & Final
If you recall the area where the first robber shot himself, there was a white metal picket fence on the corner. It's still there, and there are several bullet holes in it.
Let me know if you need anything else.

I have just updated this post again to include new images of the Key Cutting Booth and the Dentist's Office. You can see these images by redownloading the placemark at the top of this thread. I have also re-edited my original post to remove some broken links and to add whatever video's I could find of the shootout on YouTube.
The new images were very kindly emailed to me by Tim Doggett.
I also wanted to include these images within this post but didn't want to personally take credit for them. So I have decided to post Tim's email here which has link's to much larger versions of these image's for you all to enjoy.

I noticed that you had not posted any photos of the scene. I finally got a usable camera and took these photos of the location. These were taken 2 April 2007 at about 1:30PM PDT, or about four hours later than the shootout time, so the lighting and shadows are somewhat different than they were then.
This is the locksmith shop looking east-northeast across the street with the bank in the background. http://img408.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nhsols1rb9.jpg (640x391 56kB)
These are the same image at two different compressions, taken from the bank entrance and looking across the street at the locksmith shop and the dentist office. http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nhsols5jv2.jpg (med-comp. 2444x826 208kB) http://img402.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nhsols3ar5.jpg (lo-comp. 2444x826 1.06MB)
Feel free to use these as you see fit. If you need any others, or different sizes or anything, let me know.

I remember coming home from work and my wife was watching a TV show with cops and guys with machine guns shooting up the place. I said "That looks interesting, what are you watching?" She said, "The news." I was floored. It was mind boggling to watch.

Thank you for posting accurate information about the North Hollywood Shootout. Even though it was live on almost every news channel in the country, there were still lies and accusations that were carelessly and recklessly thrown around. To this day, that still frustrates me, so it is so great to see that there are people who did, and still do, care about the officers who risked their lives that day.
My dad is the SWAT officer who drove the black-and-white in the pretty much now-famous shootout with Matasareanu, and who received the Medal of Valor and Top Cop Award for his courage. We, his family, have always been so incredibly proud of him, yet so frustrated by all the negative press about the LAPD. Thank you so much for reminding people of their selfless acts of valor.
