Now this is really strange...but if you take the 3 locations a straight line will go through all of them...within less than 10ft off....no the distance between the outside two is about 3500ft...

Ya....that's what I noticed with most of the objects I saw and posted above. I've been looking at that area all since yesterday again and again. I was wondering out loud already yesterday how it would look on the ground if a plane breaks apart during an emergency landing. But nobody picked that thought up. Could it be looking just like that area?
It would have to be going pretty fast to spread debris over 3500ft...or a slow in-flight breakup at a higher altitude with a little wind on the ground would do it also..

Just a heads up.
The harddrive just started failing in my machine that I'm hosting most of the current Fossett imagery on. I've had the colocated machine for 5 years and hardware tends to not last forever.
I'll try to keep things as painless as possible, but if you can't view an assigned search area in GoogleEarth understand that we are working on it. Hopefully Ken can point to a different location temporarily until I get a new machine setup.
All imagery is now being pulled from the temporary location for new overlays.
Overlays already generated will still pull from the old location and thus won't work while the server is down.

I just took a look at these three points, all together and found a fourth more interesting object just north west of your last point. 1st on list. Take a look at this and make sure you have all the other points visable with it. 38.3141,-118.784. Get the overlays from Internetsar.org first.

I looked at the report...didn't notice anything out of the ordinary around the push pin..can you do a screen capture and post it here so we can make sure we are talking apples and apples..
Thanks..
Jim

There may still be a few bugs and I may need to add a few bells and whistles to it, but users can now track their reported objects and see all evaluator reviews for their reports.
I really like this feedback feature. It will assure the submitter that an object they think is important won't be ignored or forgotten, and at the same time, it places more responsibility and accountability on the submitter to use more careful judgement and be more selective in what they report.
Great job, thanks for all your work, Ken.

Could it be that "Near Building" and "Near Roads" get picked up in the wrong order in comments on the evaluation page? I noticed that many of the evaluations have a Y checked "Near Buildings" and N for "Near Roads". Doesn't seem to be right, because there were no buildings anywhere on those images, but there were roads.
I checked the code and indeed the near roads and near buildings answers were getting swapped when recorded in the database for evaluations. I will go through and manually fix those entries so that they are recorded correctly. I have fixed the error and it is now being recorded correctly.
Quote:
The report box has it in this order: In Old Imagery Near Buildings Near Roads
The evaluator comments have it in this order: In Old Imagery Near Road Near Near Building
I have gone through and made the display of these items consistent.

Then another thing I noticed. When I submitted an evaluation report I made a mistake in the cords and it got rejected. Then I was sent back to the report page to try again (so I thought). There I got the error message on top of the page and the box with my comments still there at the bottom. But then I noticed that the report on that page was a different one than the one that I just evaluated and tried to send off. I caught it just before I hit the send button again with the (not so fitting) comment. So somehow, after a mistake and rejection, it seems to hop back to a random report and not the one that was just evaluated.
I'll go through and rework the form validation of evaluations to be more consistent with the way the form validations for object reporting works. My first goal was to get things up and running and then smooth out the rough edges after that.

Just a little FYI for Ken and all others...I consider sites within 1/2 mile as "Close to a Road or Building" just an insight to my logic...or lack of...

Thanks Jean,
My hope is the entire reporting and feedback system helps hold everyone more accountable. Accountability will be a very important part of making this work. This is the reason I decided to show everyone who is part of given report's progress can see all of the comments of everyone else who reviewed the report.
At the same time I decided not to make reports available to anyone beyond report evaluators and the individual reporting a given report to maintain the security of a crash site should it be reported.

Thanks, I didn't put any thought into the definition of close to "X". The purpose of those two questions was to make people think about common ways to rule out objects (e.g. "oh it is right next to a major highway and a barn maybe it isn't of interest").
If we could come up with an easy to use guide as to what "near" means, I'll post it to the forms.

Here is my guide...if it's within 1/2 mile of a fair road I'll get out and go look at it...even if it is just to see what it is and take Mr Nikon along for the hike...(Does not apply to Dec-Mar)..
