Oh God! You can actually SEE the crap pouring into the Gulf!!!
I know thats not really why its brown, and thats not whats happening in this pic, but it still looks hilarious. especially to anyone whos been there and knows the feeling of seeing this from your boat. lol

Yes, I laughed, but seriously hope you actually know that it is no crap, or at least most of it is not crap, for the river does not cross too many big cities.
Rio Grande flows some 3,000 kilometers and carries along soil from Colorado, New Mexico, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Tamaulipas and Texas, most of it collected from the fields through its many affluents, dams and channels.
So, what you see is mostly earth. Sorry, but coincidentally, soil tends to have a crappy color.

That's sand. As the tide rises and falls the sands fill into the channel opening. I suggest you do a little more reading before posting such ignorant opinions.
