the edge of this large galaxy has two arcs starting at the lower tip curving upwards, not sure if this is gravitational lensing but it looks very similar

How about this one? The blue outer ring doesn't look like the normal arms of a galaxy.

I think those are just spiral arms. It's hard to tell on some of the overexposed images ...

After looking at some higher resolution pictures of NGC 5728, I can see these dark shapes like large butterfly wings around the galaxy, each wing atleast as large in lenghth and breadth as the visible light of the galaxy in the image, is this some kind of optical illusion? You'll have to veiw that image in Aladin because I'm to impatient to figure out how to post it here.

Can you post the URL for the hi-res images you mentioned?

This one happens to be in the NGC catalog layer in Google Sky. Click on the placemark and it gives you a link to this page. Down near the bottom is a link to "images". Also googling "ngc 5728" images gives you a selection. Here's one:

I tried, but am not smart enough. Thanks Hill for helping out. That isn't the picture that I was looking at, but you can observe the shape that I mentioned, dust ring perhaps, I'll try to do some more research, sorry to bug you guys, and thanks for showing interest in this exquisite galaxy
