Blue Mouse Nebula

Could this possibly be a distant nebula? I don't quite know what to make of it, but I sure do wish I could have a closer look at it. For now it just looks like a mouse as far as I'm concerned! I've tried searching for it on SIMBAD, but found nothing for these coordinates. What do y'all think?

That is some seriously distant faint stuff. The total thing is 20 arc seconds across (very small). When you blow it up to see the individual knots, it's pixelated. It could maybe be a distorted ring galaxy, or a group of galaxies, Or it could be one of the many artifacts created by the various cameras, etc used to construct GS -- I don't like the nearly straight southern edge or the sharp right angle in the southwest corner. If it is a galaxy or galaxies, they're too far away to be in any catalog.

Look up just to the northeast at 0:37:41 -33:42:57 -- there's a very nice ring galaxy with two small galaxies nearby. I wonder which one punched through and created the ring galaxy? I would guess the blue distorted one furthest north. The northern yellow galaxy has a fairly normal look.. The yellow core of the ring galaxy I almost thought was separate, but you can see that there are wisps attaching it to the ring.

Chris

The Cartwheel Galaxy is how I originally came across that sneaky little blue guy. I looked at the post that lists common visual illusions in space, and I didn't think that it looked like any of them, so I gave a shot at sharing the find. The Cartwheel Galaxy is undoubtedly beautiful, but there's just something about making an interesting find of your own that really feels wonderful. I'll be sure to keep an eye on my blue mouse in the future. Only time can tell what it is, including the possibility that it was only an illusion.

On another note, I completely agree that the blue galaxy appears to be the one involved with a collision. Its shape seems rather distorted, whereas the yellow one has a much smoother appearance, and more natural looking rotation pattern.
