This is fascinating Jumble. The part about the photos was particularly interesting to me, especially how Dirck Halstead changed his mind once he'd visited the facility. I don't know if Stephen Poliakoff's drama Shooting the Past made it to the US, but I was reminded of that, and how fascinating photo archives can be.
Thanks, Noisette ! I was not aware of Shooting the Past. It has won many awards!! I and all who are interested should try to find a copy! The trouble with photo archives is 1: Getting Access, and 2:Having the time to browse.
I am old enough to "retire" and maybe someday will find a way to have a look at Corbis and Getty. It's great that so many are on the web. Googling "Photo Archives" yields a collection of treasures.
The really IMPORTANT photos have to be purchased...like this certified, endorsed and credited Archive. One can go broke buying these gems!
One of our original members of GEC, number1fan has a wonderful collection of old San Francisco photos taken by his father as a young man, which he hopes to publish! He has many photos, though small in number when compared to Corbis, and Halstead, but it was a thrill seeing them a few years back.

Quote: Iron Mountain and HP will jointly market and sell two service offerings within the Digital Record Center for Medical Images. The Disaster Recovery Service provides healthcare organizations with a secure, off-site copy of imaging studies and allows timely data recovery in the event of a disaster at the customer site. The Disaster Recovery and Long-term Archiving Service enables customers to eliminate on-site storage and associated costs by providing two protected and replicated copies in Iron Mountain's secure underground data bunkers in Western Pennsylvania and Missouri. With both choices, customers pay as they store, maximizing cost effectiveness by eliminating inefficiencies associated with data center space and management overhead. medicexchange.com
If you need your medical records, you may have to go through bureucratic channels. One wonders how many clerks get to look at your vitals along the way! One day we all (or anyone else) may have to Google our medical records!
