This one is not so much for finding and locating, but maybe usable for analyzing stuff. Probably only of interest for real information junkies. I have never been able to stay from large piles of numbers.
The UNCDB, the United Nations Common Database. Went Free as of May 1, 2007. Has national, annual statistics on things like Agriculture, Economics, Trade, Energy, Education, Environment, Health, Mining, Population, S&T, Communications, plus much much more, in impressive detail...
Not an intuitive interface, but if you poke around for a while, you can probably squeeze out a spreadsheet or something. There is heaps of data here, (accuracy, To be determined.)
http://unstats.un.org/unsd/cdb/cdb_help/cdb_quick_start.asp
To get some ideas, see what can be done with this sort of thing, take a look here Gapminder organization http://gapminder.org/ is working on some really cool dynamic graphic representations of numerical data, and the analysis of that data, implications to the planet--theirs are mostly custom apps, just started exploring there. For a video on some of their work, take a look here. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7996617766640098677
Then, some of the Google guys are playing with some web-based versions of the graphics. http://tools.google.com/gapminder/
Should be a fun project to integrate some of this with GE (now where did I put that file of national lat/long centroids?)

This is a simple overlay legend for use with the Radar images which are available over the U.S. in the GE Weather Layer. It is based upon the legend which appears on the weather.com radar pages.

Attached is a zipped set of simple icons with letters, numbers and lettered pointers, to use with the GE custom icon feature. These icons are white: use the Properties > Style/Color feature to change their background colors and adjust their size.

As should be no surprise, my favorite Google Earth tool is http://InternetSAR.org.

This tool can be used to obtain a fairly accurate compass bearing from one location to another. To use: - Click N on the navigation tool to orient the Google Earth view to north, and return the view to straight down. (Unless hot keys have been modified, pressing the R on the keyboard will accomplish both.)
- Go to close-in view of the point of origin and activate the Ruler tool.
- Extend the Ruler line to the second point.
- If necessary, zoom in or out until the Ruler line crosses the compass scale.
