There is a new installer available as of Saturday night, Sept 17th. It will be made available via check-for-updates on Monday:
GoogleEarth-0616.exe (works for both Plus and Free)
GoogleEarthPro-0616.exe
-- Feedback is appreciated --
Changes between Sept 3rd (.0548) and Sept 17th (.0616) ---
Features --- - Edit->'Find in "Places"', allows searching for items (Ctrl-F)
- embedded web window now has vertical split option --- (works great on wide screen monitors especially for National Geographic)
- embedded web window now has "pop-out" option
- network link icons now reflect status of fetching/failed
- the included (optional) Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer now has a "search in Google Earth" option.
- If you already have the most recent version of IE or FF Google Toolbar installed, restarting your browser after the GE install should enable the new search option. You may need to enable it in the Google Toolbar options.
Bug fixes --- - Share with Google Earth Community now supports default browser
- reverse geocoding (address lookup) now works in Pro (Ctrl+RightClick)
- standard-quality mode Movie Maker improvements
- network link fetch now admits to understanding KML (allows servers to do the right thing)
- while in full-screen, zooming into Google Campus (and now National Geographic) the wrong resolution was displayed
- opening empty KML file no longer complains of XML parse error
- a formatting regression in the description balloon has been fixed
Cosmetic Changes --- - The size/shape of the search entry area have changed
- Note, the free installer is now called GoogleEarthSetup.exe

Just one thing I don't like....
my comp is set at 800x600 (lol its ok to laugh!!) and i noticed since installing the newer version, google earth always returns its windowed mode even after i've maximised it and then reopened the program.
previous versions never did this - they always stayed like they did before the program was closed...
hope this helps....

A very nice addition.
Be sure and play with the new Left Panel option in "Tools"
Tip Under Tools Turn "Left Panel" off then turn "Web" on Then click button in internal browser so it is vertical.
Now go explore Africa via NGS Layer!! Enjoy
Bye for now, as I am off to buy a widescreen monitor LOL

Before installing 0616 I copied myplaces.kml to another directory. I then installed 0616 in a directory I selected (D:\Google). I then copied myplaces.kml back in there. But GE doesn't use it! It just came up with the default sightseeing places.
I then saved a new placemark to Myplaces and exited. I then checked the myplaces.kml file. Unchanged.
I then searched my entire PC for any other versions of myplaces.kml. There are none. I then searched for all recently modified files. It found the cache and cache index but no myplaces.
I then started GE, opened my old myplaces.kml file, then moved all the stuff from temporary places to myplaces and exited GE. Again no Myplaces.kml file and no recent changed myplaces.kml file anywhere.
Where are myplaces now stored??? (I am on GE Plus).

Another problem with myplaces. After opening the old myplaces.kml and moving from temporary places to myplaces, it can no longer find any of my images.
I had lots of kmz files with images in them. All on my local machine. Now it refuses to display the images in any of them. Says it cannot find them.

The new features are quite nice and very welcome.
As a mouse-challenged and slightly disabled user, I wonder if I could ask you to give back a CTRL-key shortcut for returning to Click & Zoom navigation.
It would be a bonus to also give us a CTRL shortcut key for Tools/Options, since Alt-T-O doesn't work.
Thanks for listening!

I have been using Google Earth for about a half a year, I have updated as all the updates came out, but reading the info at Google Earth, (http://desktop.google.com/download/earth/), on the 0616 Beta update it says the new update is broad band only. Now I'm on dial up and have been all along, don't remember seeing this note before. Do I dare update? Will I be able to use this?

Some suggestions:
More control over graphics settings. A terrain detail slider and a fog distance slider. Also, time of day and weather controls would be slick. A particle system would be stunning. With a particle system tied into a weather database, like weather.com or accuweather.com, or any number of the US government weather sites, if it was snowing in Ohio it would show particle snow in that area if you had weather effects turned on. It would be nice to have a seperate cache for vertex data (Such as terrain and buildings) because as we all know mountains will always be there, so even if the database is updated, the mountains will be the same shape. (Would reduce download transactions with Google and save everyone a little money.) While we're at it, specularity thrown on large bodies of water would look great.
Measure doesn't take into account height. A little checkbox in measure to, "Calculate height" would be nice, followed by a popup warning, "Notice: Height data is not totally accurate. Your results will vary from actual height distance."
Third party GPS device support would be a nice addition, so if I'm on a laptop on a satellite Internet connection or WiMAX, GoogleEarth would have a, "YOU ARE HERE" button which when clicked grabs the GPS data from the GPS device and shows you exactly where you are.
You guys should hire me.

Hello,
i'm unable to upgrade from GE .548, nor install (after uninstalling GE .548). the new .616 installer always tell me that :
<<< A previous instance of GE is currently running. The installation of GE cannot continue until the running version is closed. The installer wil now exit. >>>
the pc has been restarted, and no GE is running... what can i do ?
i had no problems with previous installers...
what is checked to determine that GE is currently running ? maybe i have a process that make GE detection behave incorrectly (antivirus, MSN messenger, etc ...) how can i help finding such an incompatibility ?
