From the other areas around here, this looks like a shadoe. What the HELL could have made this shape of shadow? and how far away is it?

Hi Spysat
That's a relatively small area covered by DigitalGlobe satellite pictures, taken on August 17 2002, embedded in images (sat and aerial) provided by other companies. Different time, different light, different altitude.
You pointed out something pretty unusual, although not extremely rare on GE.
Have fun and keep searching. Bye b
EDIT: The date provided by GE interface is likely wrong. The correct date of that DG image should be July 17 2002.
Many thanks to saukko who pointed that out.

Nope, at least according to what GE ver. 4.3 shows:
Much easier now, isn't it?

Yes, I guessed that ! I still have the 4.2 and made the check the old way. More fun ! Under right is the enlarged part of the DigitalGlobe thumbnail per July 17 2002. As often is the case, the clouds can be seen there. No two clouds alike. Is that cloud also dated August in your 4.3 ? If, GE and DigitalGlobe disagree.

Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking when I saw the date provided by DG Layers. Most likely the date reported on GE interface is wrong and I should edit my earlier post accordingly.
After all, here they say: Quote:
Google Earth displays the approximate date of displayed imagery in the status bar at the bottom in the 3D viewer. As you mouse over a location, this information depicts the date of the imagery. Note that this date is only approximate.
DG date is definitely more trustworthy.
By the way, this thread should be moved in Data Discussions. Any Mod available out there?
