Hi Linko7 -
I suspect those are goats, rather than sheep. Goats are extremely common in Africa, because their coats are much thinner and they can eat just about anything that sticks out of the ground. Easy upkeep compared to sheep! Anyway, that's a very nice find, tvwatcher9!

I did some research and there are sheep in Africa. At first, what you said made since. They look like Dormer Sheep, unless there is another breed that is closer. Most of the sheep aren't native to Africa. Aoudad or Babary Sheep are the only wild sheep in Africa, but look nothing like these. There is also rare Dorper Sheep, but they have black heads. Thank you for your response.

Hi Donna -
Thanks to you, I've learned something new and gone off on another Google tangent - looking for African sheep. I found references to sheep in Niger and Nigeria (both in the context of studying diseases and other problems ), but couldn't find what kind they are. There were lots of examples of Dormer sheep in South Africa. There seem to be huge sheep ranches there and the Dormer was bred especially for the rainy region of S.A. (didn't know there was such a thing in South Africa).

If you find out more about the type in the northern areas of Africa, let us know!
